According to Sthapatya Ved it is Imperative to know about various valuable effects to the environment given out by various types of trees, plants, shrubs and herbs etc. This has been studied methodically and their effects to human physiology have been stated. This should be used in planning a garden around a home and planting trees around a township and public gardens.

As per standard norms of Vastu every house must have an open area and a garden depending on the size of the house.Northwest is an ideal direction for a garden in a house. However Northeast may also be utilized for maintaining Herbarium and very small plants and foliage.

Plants & trees play vital role in creating healthy environment. They purify and revitalise the air, which we breathe, by removing harmful gases. Plants also help in absorbing significant amount of harmful radiations as researched by NASA in U. S. A. We need planting of more plants and trees to save the green house effect.

In the average temperature of the atmosphere,oceans,and land masses of earth.The Planethas warmed(and cooled) many times during the 4.65 billion years  of its history. At present Earth appears to be facing a rapid warming ,which most scientists believeresults, at least in part, from human activities. The chief cause of this warming is thought to be the burning of fossil fuels,

Such as coal,oil,and natural gas, which releases into the atmosphere carbon dioxide and other substances known as green house gases.As the atmosphere becomes richer in these gases,it becomes a better insulator,retaining more of the heat provided to the planet by the sun.

            Vastu guides us for the plantation of different species of plants in different directions of land / building to achieve maximum benefits. It also guides about the harmful plants, which should be avoided.

Neither tall nor short trees should be grown in the north, northeast, or east. Tall trees in those directions prevent the organic in flow of auspicious energies and the highly beneficial rays of the morning sunshine. An equal spread of tall and short trees in the west, southwest and south is very auspicious because they help block negative influence from those directions.

Plants that are recommended should be living, fresh and having broader and larger leaves. Dried plants and flowers should be avoided. Thorny plants and milky trees should better be avoided. Rose plants and colorful orchids are exceptions. While rose plants may be kept anywhere orchids should be kept only in the garden outside the home.

Trees are beneficial all round but avoid having a tree directly in front of the main entrance of the house.Trees that cast shadows on your house between 9 am 3 pm are in auspicious and should be avoided. as much as possible.

According to Vastu Thorny plants (with the exception of roses or cactuses) have a negative influence and should not be planted on the house plot. Climbing plants should not be grown on the northern and eastern compound walls, they should be restricted to the garden. In your garden area, flowers are best situated in the west, northwest and east but not in the southwest, southeast, or northeast corners.

Golap, Champa, Kund, Chameli, Bela, Ketki, Jaba, Karni, Badri, Madhup and Tulsi.

Outdoor Plants

Amlaki, Champak, Bel, Asoka, Punnag, Mango, Bedana, Dalim, Bakul, Gulmohor, Shaal, Taal, Mahua, Kadali, Chandan, Vat, Ashwath, Sami, Tetul, Kadamb, Nimb, Dumur, Karpur, Aguru, Nagalata.

PROHIBITED TREES & PLANTS:

1. Milky Plants: The plants, which secrete milk when any part is plucked. Such plants bring financial loss. These are Mahua, Peepal, Burgad etc. Exceptional plants are Champa, Kewra etc.

  

2. Thorny Plants: Plants having thorns brings enemity in the house. Such plants are Acacia (Babul), Khair, Plum (Ber), Silk cotton (Semal), Pakad, Gooler etc. Exceptional thorny plants are Rose, Jati etc.

In City life owning a garden has become a super luxary.For people living in multi-storied society the central garden is the recourse where as people living in flat may opt for terrace garden.In metro cities terrace garden is always welcome but it should not be in South West.South East Terrace garden is tolerable but North West and North East terrace garden  are the best for morning Sunlight. as well as infrared rays.

In fact Plants and trees are used for vastu rectification in many cases.For instance a flat is having vastu defect on the northern side may be rectified by placing large leaf living  green plant.This is due to reason that plants strengthen Mercury’s influence and contribute a healthy breathing quality to the air. Since Mercury is the ruling planet of the north, plants strengthen a weak north and further enhance an already good north.
